Industrial police start journey

The industrial police force formally started its journey on Sunday (3/10/2010) aiming at maintaining peace and discipline in the country's four industrial zones.

The force is expected to join work after a 10-day long training programme. Home Minister Sahara Khatun inaugurated the training programme in the morning at Police Staff College in the capital's Mirpur area.

In the inaugural session, Sahara said her government has formed the force in line with the announcement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on November 5, 2009 to maintain security in the country’s industrial sector.

State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker and Rector of Police Staff College Nayeem Ahmed were present at the inaugural ceremony.

A total of 26 police officials including additional superintendent of police, assistant superintendent of police and inspectors took part in the training session.

The total members of the force are 2,990. Initially the force started work having 1,580 members dividing into four units in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chittagong.
