Rationing for RMG workers demanded

The National Garment Workers’ Federation Saturday demanded of the government to introduce its pledged food-rationing system for garment workers.

The call was made from a human chain formed at city’s Muktangan Saturday in observance of the World Food Day 2010.

“Despite recent increase in RMG workers’ wages, they are still getting poorer pays than any other industrial labourers,” said Amirul Haque, president of the federation.

Safia Parvin, secretary of the federation, said the government promised several times for introducing ration for RMG workers but the system is yet to see the light of the day.

Speakers at the human-chain demo demanded immediate implementation of rationing system for 30 lakh workers of the export industry in recognition of their 77 percent contribution to the country’s export earnings.
