Chittagong International Trade Fair (CITF) begins Sunday

The month-long 19th Chittagong International Trade Fair (CITF) will kick off in the port city on Sunday to promote local products and accelerate growth in manufacturing sector. Commerce Minister Faruk Khan is expected to inaugurate the fair, organised by Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), at Polo Ground in Chittagong.

Around 300 participants from both home and abroad will be showcasing their products at 36 pavilions and 263 stalls in the fair, spreading over 400,000 square feet (sqft) premises, the organisers informed at a press conference at CCCI auditorium yesterday.

Thailand is taking part in the far as the partner country for the 8th time and would showcase products in a 4500-square feet pavilion while Pakistan, Kashmir, Iran, United Arab Emirates and Korea would be among the other participating countries in the fair.

Members of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) would participate in the fair under the supervision of the organization (FPCCI) in a 3600 – square feet pavilion, said CCCI leaders at the press briefing.

As a part of corporate social responsibility, CCCI and the Department of Forest jointly will also open a stall in the fair to help the visitors to vote for Sundarbans, the world's biggest mangrove forest, to include it in the seven natural wonders of the world.

Temporary camps of Police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have been set up in and around the fair venue to ensure foolproof security during the event.

CCCI President Murshed Murad Ibrahim made address of welcome and Senior Vice-president Mahbubul Alam gave vote of thanks ahead the fair where the CITF committee Co-Chairman Ashik Bhuiyan read out written statement at the press briefing.
