RMG workers protest factory closure

Workers of a ready-made garment factory in the capital’s suburb Savar area staged demonstration Sunday morning protesting the closure of their factory.



At least 2,400 workers staged demonstration for about two and a half hours from 7:30am in front of Navana Sweater Factory at Kalma protesting the authority’s decision to shut the factory for next three months, Officer-in-Charge of Savar Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said.
The agitating workers also chanted slogans against the closure.
The authorities of the factory were forced to suspend the operation of the factory for three months as they had been incurring huge loss due to lack of work order, the OC added.
The workers withdrew their demonstration around 10:00am when Savar police took the situation under control.
No untoward incident was took place during the demonstration.
