“The big units would implement the newly adopted wage structure from December and we would also request the owners of the medium and small units to implement the new wage structure,” he said addressing a press briefing in the city.
The apex body of the garment manufacturers organized the press briefing with Overseas Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (OCAB) at BGMEA Bhavan on the eve of BATEXPO Fair-2010. It will be held on November 25-27 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the fair while leader of the opposition in parliament and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will attend the concluding ceremony of the two-day exposition.
Addressing the press briefing he also claimed that 80 percent wage was increased in the newly adopted pay structure and a newly appointed worker would get Tk 4800 to Tk 5000 as monthly salary plus overtime bills.
He informed the journalists that over 62 to 65 percent garment factories of the country are medium or small in size. “So, It would be very difficult for them to implement the new structure,” he said.
He also asked the government to assist the RMG sector through smooth supply of gas and electricity so that small and medium organizations can implement the declared pay structure easily.
The president of the organization also demanded implementation of the stimulus package for maintaining the economic growth as yarn price on the world market has increased up to 30 to 32 percent.
Chief Coordinator of BATEXPO Murad Hossain Sohel, BGMEA Vice-president Faruque Hossain, leaders and members of the OCAB, among others, attended the press briefing.
